Demodex mites are microscopic, so we are unable to see them with the naked eye... So how do we know test to see what they look like, how do we know that they exist?

Well, let us tell you!! 🤓

Here are 4 ways to find out if you have an overpopulation of Demodex mites:

- Cellophane Tape Method (CTM):
A 3–5 cm sticky piece of cellophane tape is pressed to the hair and skin of the selected region.
A glass slide is then coated with mineral oil, and the adhesive side of the tape is placed onto the glass slide. Using a microscope, dermatologists then examine the density of Demodex present!

- Squeezing Method:
According to protocols, the specialist will squeeze the skin to expose the contents within the pimples and pores. This is then removed using a glass slide and examined under the microscope.

- Standardized Skin Surface Biopsy (SSSB):
This method is the most common method to obtain Demodex density. The specialist drops cyanoacrylate glue on a transparent slide and sticks it on the intended part of the skin, and after a minute, removes it gently. Finally, the slide is sent to the laboratory for microscopic examination.
