 Fungal acne, also known as Pityrosporum Folliculitis or Malassezia folliculitis, is a
pimple-like complication in which bacteria do not play a role (unlike common
types of acne.) The cause of fungal acne is the overgrowth of a particular kind of fungus native to the human body called Malassezia.

_ Fungal acne outbreaks appear to be exacerbated in humid climates around the
skin's sebaceous-rich parts like the forehead, shoulders, chest, and back. Itching is
one of the symptoms that is observed. Sebaceous glands are the part of the body
that produces ‘sebum’, your skin’s oil that keeps it healthy and moisturized.

_ Unlike most acne, Malassezia folliculitis does not respond to antibiotics and
requires antifungal treatments. For this reason, it may get even worse with the
overuse of antibiotics. Nevertheless, this acne-like condition is often confused
with regular, run-of-the-mill acne.
